Uttarakhand is the closest place to enjoy snowfall near Delhi, the nearest place is Lansdowne, which is just 250 kms from Delhi, but Snowfall is rare once in 2,3 years.

Dehradun, Roorkee, or Kotdwara, are the three prime entrance into Uttarakhand from Delhi. Whichever road you take, you’ll enter the Devbhumi, full of mountains!

Once you enter Uttarakhand, the mountains are not that high and thus, snowfall is out of the question. So, let’s drive inside the state and go through our list of best snowfall places in Uttarakhand!

Before deciding the Uttarakhand snowfall place, you need to decide the time. December is the month when snowfall starts and it continues until February. So, December, January, and February are the three months you should pack your bags for!

The second thing to consider is that the place should be close to Delhi. The trip should be covered within 3-4 days, keeping it a weekend getaway.

#1 Chakrata

Chakrata is a Cantt area close to the Himachal Pradesh. It’s one of the nearby snowfall places from Delhi as it stands at 321KMs. As it touches the Himachal Pradesh border, you’ll always have the option to go into HP.

Or, you can drive further to Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and Sanctuary.

#2 Mussoorie

Mussoorie is a hill station near Delhi also famous as Queens of Hills. it located in Dehradun district and just 35 Kilometers from Dehradun, you can expect snowfall at the end of December to January. You can check the weather forecast before visiting and Book your hotel in advance.

#3 Chopta

Chopta is a small village standing at 408KMs away from Delhi. The village lies between Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. If you’re here and have a couple of extra days, then trekking ahead to Tunganath will be a good idea.

At 12,073ft, Tunganath features the highest Shiva temple in the world, considering Amarnath as a cave which is at 12,756ft.

I’ve seen snow in the month of July at Amarnath so, in December-February, Tunganath will not disappoint you.

A small place located on the Ukhimath-Chopta road. From Delhi, it stands approx 470KMs away. You can take the road to Srinagar (Uttarakhand) and beyond that, there will be many places to see the snowfall.

It’s one of the nearby snowfall places from Delhi, as it stands at the  321KMs mark. You might not find snowfall in the early December, but things start getting white towards the end.

Whenever you’re planning the snowfall trip, drive till Kanatal first. If you’re lucky then stay, or drive further into the Uttarakhand.

Being the most popular snowfall destination in Uttarakhand, Auli has a special place in everyone’s heart.

No doubt, it’s the best pick, but it’s not that close to Delhi. It stands approx 508KMs away from the capital, making it a full-day drive.

You can reach there by evening (start as early as you can) and enjoy the snowfall for a day or two.

If you’ve three days off, then you’ll be getting just a day in the midst of snowfall. Not that bad, right?
